Yeonhong Island

Yeonhong Island is a small island within Geogeum Island and is the only place in Korea with an art museum on the island. Working with leading Korean artists, residents helped create murals and art across the island, which is often described as an open-air museum without a roof. Reached by a five-minute boat ride from Sinyang Pier at the western tip of Geogeum Island, it features the Yeonhong Museum in a former school building and painted murals along the village alleys. The surrounding waters, at the entrance to Deungnyangman Bay, have strong currents and deep water, making them well suited to rock fishing. Some fields on the island are still tilled with oxen rather than farm machinery, and visitors may be lucky enough to see a villager plowing with an ox-drawn plow.
