Wonpo Beach

Wonpo Beach is one of the beaches closest to the expressway, with a straight stretch of white sand, shallow clean water, and dense pine forest. A campground with 30 sites and nearby amenities draws many visitors. Where the East Sea meets a stream stands a rock called Hwasangam, which is the symbol of the beach. According to legend, a passing old monk saw three boy novices fishing, two of whom kept their catch in a small pool while one repeatedly caught and released fish, and the monk, moved by the boy's piety, called on Gwanseum Bosal, after which the boy vanished and a rock shaped like a monk appeared in his place.
